Meet the Band
Folks who have Joined the Band--and the commitments they have made to live more responsibly with the earth and its people and to share their commitments with others. Mowie Freeman, Westtown, PA; Mowie will be watching out for the earth by focusing on environmentally-friendly decisions, and by sharing her awareness with others. She'll be reaching out to her neighbors in any way that she can. She's also raising money at her school for NCP's Give a Girl a Chance program. Deborah Starke Bulloc, Warrensburg, MO; Debbie will be living more responsibly with the earth by reducing consumption, eating locally grown or organic food more, recycling her waste, finding ways to conserve energy in her home and reducing her driving trips. She will be meeting her neighbors and asking them if they need her to help or pray for them, and by supporting fair trade. Debbie will be facilitating food & cooking classes to educate others on food issues. Lisa Irle, Warrensburg, MO; Lisa will be riding a scooter rather than driving a car when walking is not an option locally. She will be living more fairly with her neighbors by eliminating mowed space in her yard, and hand weeding and pruning. Lisa will be a visible example of living lightly on the earth. Melody Irle, Warrensburg, MO; Melody will be buying organic/biodynamically grown food. She will be reducing car trips, studying ways of working with nature (Viktor Schauberger), and developing a grey water system. She will be buying fair trade, and using water, wind, and solar power. Melody will be sharing her commitments with her community by continuing the Warrensburg Natural Food Buying Club. Sarah Durnbaugh, Indianapolis, IN; Sarah will be living more responsibly with the earth by air-drying her clothes. She will not be eating beef. Sarah will bear witness in her community as to why she is not eating beef. Nancy L. Gwin, Avon, IN; Nancy will be recycling and cutting consumption. She will be living more fairly with her neighbors by buying fair trade. Nancy will be wearing her New Community Project T-Shirt! Zach Ottens, Palmyra, PA; Zach will not be littering. He will not be arguing with his neighbors. Zach will be sharing his commitment with his community by making “Don't Litter” signs. Jennie Ott, Churubusco, IN; Jennie will be living more responsibly with the earth by recycling. She will be helping her mother start a compost pile. Jennie will be writing a report about the New Community Project. Kay L. Rhodes, Elizabethtown, PA; Kay will be driving less and driving an economical car, composting organic material, and lowering her carbon footprint in her home through energy efficient-practices (fluorescent lights and energy conservation). She will be living more fairly with her neighbors by shopping locally and supporting organic farms and local producers. Kay will be working towards educating her church and her workplace about the environmental impact of their products. Kira Wennerholm, Iowa City, IA; Kira will be living more responsibly with the earth by not drinking bottled water more than she has to and recycling the bottle, not throwing it away. She will be trying to use less of her fair share of materials. Kira will be talking about her commitments with her friends. Heather R. Lantz, Broadway, VA; Heather is becoming a vegetarian, making more intentional decisions about her transportation modes, using fewer consumables like paper towels, plastic bags, and disposable silverware, and thinking harder about each purchase she makes. She will be living more fairly with her neighbors by buying fair trade items when available, thinking about how her purchases affect people nearby and overseas, and educating herself! Heather has encouraged her home church to recycle bulletins and has designed a basket for this purpose. She's talked with her parents about reducing their dependence on their SUV, and has tried to educate her family more on the dangers of global warming and what we can do to prevent it by changing within. Susan Hertzog, Lebanon, PA; Susan will be eating local foods, less meat, organics, recycling all materials possible, using alternative fuels in all areas possible, and spending wisely. She will be buying fair trade, and only her needs—not her wants. She will befriend the lonely, hurting, and poor folks in her community on an individual or group basis, and be kind to all. Susan will share her commitments with her community by helping the Food Bank, sending money to 3 rd World countries, working for women's rights and empowerment, and by spreading the word. Sophia Gingrich, Minneapolis, MN; Sophia will be living more responsibly with the earth by taking quicker showers and not using a lot of paper. She will be buying less school clothes and telling people at her birthday party to bring gifts for other people. Sophia will be telling of her commitments to her church, and to her friends. Steph Grammentz, Preston, MN; Steph will be cleaning up litter, planting flowers, and recycling. She will live more fairly with her neighbors by donating things for them. Steph will be telling people about Join the Band! Debrah Armitage, Richmond, IN; Debrah will be living more responsibly with the earth by composting, walking and bicycling instead of driving, and changing her shower head. She will be eating vegetarian meals three times a week. Debrah will be tithing and talking about living with more responsibility and sustainability. Ben Lowman, Rocky Mount, VA; Ben will be encouraging family members to practice "green" habits in their lifestyles. He will be living more fairly with his neighbors by being more helpful and resourceful to anyone who needs extra help. Ben will be bringing ideas to his church and school about living in harmony with the earth. Kenny Ellerbee, Keezletown, VA; Kenny will be cutting down on his water usage. He will be sharing his commitments with his community by spreading news and awareness. Carter Wintsch, Lebanon, PA; Carter will be living more responsibly with the earth by taking shorter showers, recycling, and starting groups at church. He will be spreading the news to his neighbors. Carter will be raising awareness at his church. Timmy Mee-Say, Lebanon, PA; Timmy will be starting a group to help preserve the rainforest and walk more than use any gas powered vehicle. He will be living more fairly with his neighbors by learning more about what they do and how to do it. Timmy will be advertising for everyone to "Join the Band." Emily Driver, Richmond, VA; Emily will be eating less beef and taking shorter showers. She will be more patient with people, and help those in need. Emily will be sharing her commitments with her community by encouraging her church and friends to send money and become aware. Kinsey Miller, Richmond, VA; Kinsey will be living more responsibly with the earth by cutting shower time and using organic products. She will listen to people's needs and help them with their problems. Kinsey will be giving out flyers to friends and family about the rainforests that informs them about what's happening. Bradley Raybarn, Rocky Mount, VA; Bradley will be recycling his milk cartons and talking to his pastor to get fundraising started. He will be giving money to charities instead of getting stuff for himself. Bradley will be sharing his commitments with his community by talking with his congregation in church. Heidi Gross, Aurora, IL; Heidi will be living more responsibly with the earth by driving her hybrid car, choosing local in-season foods, and eating a vegetarian diet. She will be living in a diverse environment, going out of her way to meet people different from her, and giving generously to hunger aid organizations. Heidi will be getting NCP Director David Radcliff to speak at her school and carpooling with others in her hybrid. Marcia Webb, Pittsburgh, PA; Marcia will be buying her food locally. She will be living more fairly with her neighbors by buying fair trade as much as possible. Marcia will be sharing her ideas and commitments and inviting others to join (e.g. taking others to local farmer's markets). Jane Monn, Midland, VA; Jane will be living more responsibly with the earth by driving less. She will be opening doors for her neighbors. Jaene will be sharing her commitments at her church. Karen Rowland, Milford, IN; Karen will be recycling, composting, and using energy more wisely. She will be living more fairly with her neighbors by sharing what she has. Karen will be telling more people about her commitments, and teaching children what they can do. Lori Crain, Ft. Wayne, IN; Lori will be recycling and buying less. She will be stopping the use of pesticides and herbicides on her lawn. Cathy Huffman, Rocky Mount, VA; Cathy will be living more fairly with the earth by limiting her use of the clothes-dryer, and limiting her dishwasher and energy usage. She will be buying locally. Cathy will be sharing her commitments with her Sunday School class. Lisa Lauzkrom-Tamarazo, Farmington Hill, MI; Lisa will be living more responsibly with the earth by buying locally grown produce. Donnie Paddock, Independence, MO; Donnie will be living more responsibly with the earth by not using as much stuff that was made unfairly. He will no be as judgmental of his neighbors and try to be aware of them and what they are doing. Donnie will be speaking more about his commitments. Zach Ottens, Palmyra, PA; Zach will not be littering. He will be living more fairly with his neighbors by not arguing with them. Zach will be making "Don't Litter" signs for his community. Cheyenne Cline, Mt. Solon, VA; Cheyenne will be recycling and doing all she can to protect our planet. She will be communicating with her neighbors. Cheyenne will be sharing her commitments with her community by helping in any and all ways she can! Ashley Plaugher, Bridgewater, VA; Ashley will be living more responsibly with the earth by picking up litter and not driving around for fun. She will be forgiving and helping her neighbors. Ashley will be sharing the story behind her bracelet with her community. Luke Frey, Ship, PA; Luke will be recycling, taking shorter showers, and planting trees. He will be living more fairly with his neighbors by being more kind, open, and helpful. Luke will be volunteering in his community. Trenton Wizar, Lebanon, PA; Trenton will not be wasting resources. He will be sharing his toys with his neighbors. Trenton will be sharing his commitments with his community by keeping them in his prayers. Sophie Ottoni Wilhelm, Richmond, IN; Sophie will be living more responsibly with the earth by riding her bike to sports practices, and limiting herself to 10 minute showers. She will be sharing rides or trips with her neighbors and coordinating errands. Sophie will be sharing her views and actions with her church community and school community no matter what. Laurien Fiddes, Alameda, CA; Laurien will be recycling and buying and selling used clothes and accessories. She will be living more fairly with her neighbors by getting to know them better and using less resources. Laurien will be telling others about her commitments. Jeremy Fiddes, Alameda, CA; Jeremy will be living consciously with the earth. He will be nice to his neighbors. Jeremy will be sharing his commitments with his community by being nice to them. Katelynn Miles, Easton, MD; Katelynn will be living more responsibly with the earth by recycling. She will be sharing with her neighbors. She will tell her friends at school about her commitments. Brandon Miles, Easton, MD; Brandon has committed to recycling more. He will be living more fairly with his neighbors by playing together and sharing. Brandon will be telling others of his commitments. Jessica A. Wilson, Holde , MO; Jessica will not be wasting as much and recycling more. She ill not judge her neighbors and accept them for who they are. She will share her commitments with her community by telling everyone. Shelby Zoellers, Ottawa, KS; Shelby will be living more responsibly with the earth by re-using Wal-Mart sacks, conserving electricity, water, and lights, and recycling pop bottles. She will be seeing if her neighbors have any unanswered questions, and inviting them to join in her commitments. Shelby will be helping out in non-profits and projects in her community. Sarah Roberts, Kearney, MO; Sarah will be taking her bike or walking more instead of driving. She will continue to live fairly with her neighbors by praying for them, caring, and trying to make a difference in their lives. She will be talking to her friends and encouraging her community to get involved and participate. Shelby Therrien, Independence, KS; Shelby will be picking up trash around her town and neighborhood. She will be helping her neighbors. Shelby will share her commitments with her community by putting flyers up and seeing if people want to help. Treasure Anderson, Cherryvale, KS; Treasure will be living more responsibly with the earth by not wasting useful things. She will be showing her neighbors the respect they deserve. Treasure will be showing off her wristband in the community and explaining it to them. Shelby Tillery, Ottawa, KS; Shelby will be not riding in cars as much, not wasting, and finding ways to help people in other places. She will be living more fairly with her neighbors by telling them what she's about, and helping them make smarter decisions. Shelby will be telling as many people as she can about her commitments. Dale Yoder, Garnett, KS; Dale will be more responsible with his personal usage of materials. He will be helping his neighbors more, and sharing his commitments through his actions to his community. Aaron G. Parker, Hutchinson, KS; Aaron will be walking more, and saving food, cans, and bottles he would otherwise throw out. He will be learning more about his neighbors both next door and across the world. Aaron will share his commitments with his community by wearing the wristband and telling people about it. Dusti Doub, Independence, KS; Dusti will be living more responsibly with the earth by not littering and walking more. She will be including her neighbors and helping them when they need it. Dusti will be telling her community about her commitments and asking them for help with them. Kyle Reeve, Ottawa, KS; Kyle will not be ashamed of recycling and using more eco-friendly products, walking and biking more, and he will live without some of the extras that he has. He will be taking time to listen to his neighbors' problems and successes. Kyle will not be afraid to share his commitments and beliefs, and inform his community of them. Silas Dell, Beatrice, NE; Silas will be consuming less and encouraging others to do so. He will be living more fairly with his neighbors by not judging them and respecting their beliefs. Silas will be working with his church and surrounding community to promote simple living. Ben Gunn, Cordova, MD; Ben will be recycling. He will do hunger relief activities for his neighbors. Ben will share his commitments with his community by inviting people to join him. Amelia Gunn, Cordova, MD; Amelia will be living more responsibly with the earth by recycling. She will be her neighbors' friend, and will share her commitments with her community and neighbors. Debra L. Eisenbise, Kalamazoo, MI; Debra will live more responsibly with the earth by using thermos and carry-along containers, encouraging recycling at church, and purchasing a water filtration system in place of bottled water. She will be buying more local and organic produce, giving of her time/talent/treasure, and vocally advocating for the inclusion of all people into society. Katie Lynde, Millersburg, PA; Katie will be continuing to recycle in school and at home. She will be helping those in need, and talking to people who look lost. She will share her commitments with her community by speaking on the importance of caring for each other. Nancy Michaelian, Millersbur , PA; Nancy will be recycling. She will be living more fairly with her neighbors by sharing her wealth, and sharing her commitments with her church and co-workers. Virginia Baisden, Manassas, VA; Virginia will be living more responsibly with the earth by planting and watering plants. She will be playing with and babysitting her neighbors. Virginia will be helping in church. Jonathan Martin, Falls Church, VA; Jonathan will be picking up pieces of garbage he sees while walking around. He will be helping someone in his neighborhood or school. He will be sharing his commitments with his community by telling people about global warming. Marilyn E. Kurtz, Willow St, PA; Marilyn will be conserving her use of paper products and recycling. She will live more fairly with her neighbors by being aware of their needs, and limiting her use of pesticides. Marilyn will be sharing ideas with her community. Steven L. Seitz, Hyattsville, MD; Steve will be purchasing and using much less of everything (e.g. petroleum products, walking more, using less electronics), and eating half of his meals vegetarian. He will be purchasing from local farmers markets using CSA shares, buying fair trade, owning socially responsible mutual funds, and advocating fair trade practices against the WTO, IMF, and World Bank. Steve will be a NCP congregational representative by organizing workshops and regularly communicating with his elected representatives. Brent Carlson, Marylhurst, OR; Brent will be avoiding waste and using materials respectfully. He will be talking positively about others and living humbly. Brent will share his commitments with his community by encouraging others to respect the earth and protect the environment by setting a good example. Amy Helmuth, Seattle, WA; Amy will be living more responsibly with the earth by only eating what she needs, recycling, reducing waste, and by not buying plastic bottles. She will be thinking of and supporting people in other countries, and taking Learning Tours . Amy will be telling her community of the stats of cars and water bottles, and their impacts. Myron F. Zerger, Dearborn, MI; Myron will be composting his vegetable garbage, lawn clippings, and leaves. He will also be eating more organic foods. Myron plans on communicating more with his community, and will continue to advocate with people with mental illnesses to share his commitments. Kara Cronkhite, Dearborn, MI; Kara will be eating organic produce, abstaining from fertilizing her lawn, and will stop buying household cleaners. She will live more fairly with her neighbors by pulling theirs weeds (so they don't use weed-killers), carpooling, and shoveling for her neighbors (so they don't use a snow-blower). She will be driving less and biking more, and will show her support to an end of the war in Iraq . Thomas Zerger, Dearborn, MI; Thomas will be living more responsibly with the earth by cutting down on purchases, and monitoring energy use of electronics when they aren't being used. He will be purchasing Fair Trade items from his global neighbors, lending a hand, and joining support groups to make a difference. Thomas will be shopping at co-ops, rather than big chain stores. Kelati Andemichael, Edmonds, WA; Kelati will be recycling more, and eating and wasting less. She will be more social with her neighbors. She will share her commitments with her community by talking to them. Joseph Varnadore, Everrett, WA; Joseph will not be wasting as much. He will live more fairly with his neighbors by helping and treating them as family. Michael Schober, Everrett, WA; Michael will be living more responsibly with the earth by irecycling everything he uses, using even that to the fullest as if it were the last. He will be sharing everything that is needed with his neighbors. He will be spreading the word about what can be done to preserve the earth and peoples' kindness. Michaela Overton, Seattle, WA; Michaela will be recycling, saving electricity, riding her bike or walking places, and thinking more of people in other countries. She will be sharing her commitments with her community by sharing her info, practicing what she preaches, and being patient in reminding them. Laura A. Skinner, DeKalb, IL ; Laura will be making responsible decisions about where the products she buys come from. She will be eating meat only once/twice a week, and recycling and reusing plastic as much as possible. She will be living more fairly with her neighbors by thinking about others and ways that will help them out, buying fair trade items, and researching whether items are made in sweatshops. Laura will be leading a college group that is geared to educate others about the environment, and will be picking up trash and educating herself to what is going on in the world.
