Folks who have Joined the Band--and the commitments they have made to live more responsibly with the earth and its people and to share their commitments with others. Erin Gaines, Hagerstown, MD; Erin will live more responsibly with the earth by Recycling and going to disaster response. She will also not be consuming more than she needs. She will share responsibility with her community by not littering and recycling cans. Moriah Garling, Williamsport, MD; Moriah will be saving water bottles, and recycling more cans. He will live more fairly with his neighbors by being kinder to them. Moriah will also be asking his neighbors to join him in recycling efforts. Kristen Resh, Hagerstown, MD; Kristen will be recycling and going to disaster response. She also will consciously not eat more than she needs. She will share responsibility with her neighbors by recycling cans, and not littering. Michaela Boyle, Hagerstown, MD; Michaela will live more responsibly with the earth by riding her bike more often. She will also live more fairly with her neighbors by donating money to less fortunate countries. She will be telling her friends and teachers about her commitments. Amanda Smith, Taneytown, MD; Amanda will be doing more for her community, praying for people, and promoting Join the Band to her friends. She also will be talking and more giving towards her neighbors. She will be telling her church, friends, and family about her commitments. Ben Funkhowser, Warrenton, VA; Ben will live more responsibly with the earth by not watching TV, so less coal is needed. He will be giving his neighbors more respect. Ben will share his commitments with his community by earning money for the poor. Emily Mordan, Woodsboro, MD; Emily will be doing more for people that need a chance. She will be helping her neighbors out, and showing them that she cares. Matthew Otte, Midland, VA; Matthew will be recycling to live more responsibly with the earth. He will be helping his neighbors out, and being a good person in his community. Kristine Harner, Nokesville, VA; Kristine will be recycling, carpooling, and telling her community to recycle. Brett Baisden, Manassas, VA; Brett will be living more responsibly with the earth by recycling more, and turning off the lights. He will now be wasting less, and conserving oil. Brett plans to share his commitments with his community. Peter Bowman, Nokesville, VA; Peter will be recycling more, and talking to his neighbors. Mark Bowman, Nokesville, VA; Mark will be turning off lights and water he isn't using, and recycling more. To live more fairly with his neighbors, he will be using less fossil fuels. Mark will be making his community aware of things that they can do to help save the earth. Jonathan Martin, Falls Church, VA; Jonathan will be picking up trash while walking on God's earth. He will help someone at his school, or in his neighborhood. He will be telling his community about global warming. David Deemer, Nokesville, VA; David will save energy, be kind to his neighbors, and go to church in his community more. Missy Burket, Fairfax, VA; Missy will be recycling and picking up cans she sees. She will live more fairly with her neighbors by using less water and fertilizer. She will share her commitments with her community by writing a devotional for Lent. Emily Gardner, Woodsboro, MD; Emily will be picking up cans, donating to rainforest funds, eating less shrimp, and recycling in general. She will also help her neighbors recycle, and reminding them not to waste paper towels. She will also be scheduling clean up efforts and workcamps. Amanda Wivell, Union Bridge, MD; Amanda will be not using as much paper, giving money to help her neighbors, and sharing her commitments with friends at school. Sarah Lubbs, Maplewood, MN; Sarah will be using her car less, recycling, and living more in harmony with the earth. She will commit herself to understanding other parts of the world better, and will be discussing her experiences and knowledge with her community. Caleb Wilson, Myersville, MD; Caleb will be recycling more and using compost piles. He will participate more in his church's shelters, and will try to get his school more active in countries by donating food, money, clothes, and supplies. Debra L. Eisenbise, Kalamazoo, MI; Debra will use take-along containers instead of styrofoam, encourage recycling at her church, and put in a water filter to curtail bottled water consumption. She will be buying more local produce, giving what she can, and advocate the inclusion of all. She’ll be more proactive in talking with people around her about why she’s doing what she’s doing. Rochelle Ochoa, Boise, ID Rochelle will be living more responsibly with the earth by recycling and using less water, and also by putting out less waste. She will be treating her neighbors with more respect. Rochelle will share her commitments with her community by walking instead of driving, and telling others to do the same. Hilary Skipper, Beavercreek, OH Hilary will care for the earth by not buying plastic water bottles herself and promoting this to others, and she will give up eating beef. With regard to her neighbors, she will give her time and money where it is needed most. To engage her community, she will share information she has learned about these and other things with her family, friends, and co-workers. Robert and Jes Russo, Newport-News, VA Robert and Jes will cut their waste production by using rags instead of paper towels, cleaning with non-toxic materials, and monitoring their trash production. Food-wise, they're strive to buy locally and will use cloth grocery bags, along with seeking out products with the least packaging. In addition, they will speak out about their love for God's creation, about humanity's role in disregarding the earth, and will do this in apolitical ways. They will invite others around them to environmental events and will talk with church leaders about care for creation. Steve Seitz, Hyattsville, MD Steve will work to purchase and use less of everything; repairing rather than throwing things away; trying to find a job within walking distance; recycling everything in sight; using compact florescent bulbs; not buying from Exxon-Mobil; reducing water use; and going vegetarian half the time. In his neighborhood, he will seek out local producers rather than supporting global corporations; buy Fair Trade whenever possible; invest in socially-responsible funds and work to reform and/or oppose international financial agencies. He will share his commitments with his community by representing NCP; organizing workshops; communicating with state and federal elected officials about his concerns for justice and environmental care. Jaima Combs, Chesterfield, IN Jaima will be recycling, eating less meat, and not littering. Jaima will be sacrificing things she doesn't need to help her neighbors. She will share her commitment by spreading the ord. Will Hoover, Elizabethtown, PA Will plans to make small changes in his life to live more responsibly. Will is trying to live more fairly by continuing what he's already doing. He will share these commitments by volunteering. Matt Ream, Lititz, PA Matt will be recycling more. He will also be sharing items over time. He will be spreading the word by wearing his NCP t-shirt. Haylee K. Murdock, Chesterfield , IN Haylee will be recycling, eating less meat, and not littering. She will also make sacrifices to live more fairly. Haylee w ill be sharing what she knows with her community. Erin Matteson, Modesto, CA Erin will be living more responsibly by using less water. She will also be more conscious of where/how her foods (and purchases) are gathered. She will be letting her community know her, and inviting them to hold her accountable. Hannah Miller, Richmond, VA Hannah will be recycling and trying to join a work camp every summer. She will treat her neighbors as equals and not put people down. She will show her commitments through her actions and spreading them. Megan Combs, Chesterfield, IN Megan will live more responsibly by recycling, not littering, picking up trash, and volunteering to plant trees. Megan will be sacrificing what she doesn't need, and helping her neighbors. She will show people Jesus' love by actions and getting others involved. Jillian Foester, Port Republic, VA Jillian will be recycling, picking up trash, and not taking unnecessary trips in the car to live responsibly with the earth. She will also be buying more food that was locally grown. Jillian will spread the word and wear the bracelet in her community. Megan Siegfried, Bernville, PA Megan will be recycling and conserving water. She will live more fairly with her neighbors by sharing quality time and helping them out. Megan will let her community know of her commitments by wearing the NCP t-shirt. Dianne Hollinger, Dallastown, PA Dianne will be collecting trash or roadside compost and consuming less. She will use energy more efficiently, and encourage geothermal heat in the building of her new home. She will also gain education from her church and the community there. She will share her commitment by educating children. Sue Wagner Fields, Annville, PA Sue will be eating local food as much as possible to live more responsibly with the earth. Sue will teach and learn about the dynamics of economic globalization, and more just alternatives. Sue will teach her commitments to her teenage daughters and friends. Nick Dormais, Live Oak, CA Nick will live more responsibly with the earth by recycling. He will live more fairly with his neighbors by helping them. He will share his commitments with his community by talking to them. Erica Waligore, San Jose, CA Erica will be using less paper, and informing her community of our ecological position. She will be helping her neighbors with their everyday needs, and not just her own family. She will lead her community by example. Marla Hart, Quarryville, PA Marla will be recycling to the best she can for the earth. She will be helping her neighbors recycle as well, and sharing with them why they should. She will also be traveling so she can share her experiences. Sarah Drennen, Paradise, PA Sarah will be recycling, not eating beef, and telling people about it. Sarah will be helping her neighbors and educating them. She will raise money for her community. Grant Steele, Ft. Wayne, IN Grant will refuse everything he can, recycle, become more resourceful, and conserve water, electricity and gasoline. Grant will forgive his neighbors easily, giving to those in need, and loving everyone. He will tell people in his community about NCP and his commitments, and encourage others to do the same. Allen Bowers, Woodstock, VA Allen will be starting a recycling program at his mother's house. He will do more work for his neighbors without them asking, and make sure that they have everything they need that he can supply. Allen will be sharing his concept of stewardship and compassion in his sermons and daily conversation. Glenn HasBrouck, Harpursville, NY Glenn will be living more responsibly with the earth by recycling where possible and purchasing commodities in reusable/recyclable containers. Glenn also will be learning more about other cultures and their needs, and seeing how his choices affect others. He will share his views on reducing energy use and recycling efforts to his community. Joan HasBrouck, Harpursville, NY Joan will not be wasteful with our shared natural resources, recycle everything possible, and try to purchase items that can be recycled. Joan will be living more fairly with her neighbors by appreciating their differences. She will share her commitments with her community by educating people on environmental issues and on how they impact our lives. Nina Hoffert, Golden, CO Nina will be avoiding eating beef. She will also consider peaceful, loving responses to conflict situations. She will learn from local and global neighbors how best to respond to challenging social situations. Nina will share her commitments with her community by wearing her wristband and sharing her convictions with anyone who inquires. Nate Lawdenski, Aurora, IL Nate will be conserving resources by walking and trying to conserve water with shorter showers. He will live more fairly with his neighbors by staying calmer and thinking of compromises. He will also share his commitments with his community by talking to people and helping them to live better. Jim Lawdenski, Aurora, IL Jim will try to live more responsibly with the earth by living more simply, and not being wasteful of resources. He will live more fairly with his neighbors by being more tolerant and patient with them. Jim also commits to being more vocal with his concerns over the environment. Micah Stern-Gilbert, Elkhart, IN Micah will live more responsibly with the earth by biking more. He also pledges to speak to his neighbors about God. Micah plans to tell his community about his commitments. Jeremiah Nace, Dillsburg, PA Jeremiah commits to reducing his consumption, and conserving resources and energy. Jeremiah also will live more fairly with his neighbors by respecting their cultures and supporting their communities. He will also work within his own community to educate on the benefits of recycling. Daniel Radcliff, Elgin, IL Daniel will work toward living sustainably with God's earth by taking what he's learned in reducing and recycling, and applying himself more towards reusing. He is also planning to write his representatives in Washington about the issues about which he has passion. Daniel will share his commitments with his community by leading through example, and opening lines of communication. Wanda Carricato, Harrisburg, PA Wanda will be making a concerted effort to use less resources. She is also looking for ways to share, such as co-op recycling programs. Wanda will share her commitments with her community by a continued pledge of renewal. Renee Bockover, Blessfield, CA Renee will be living responsibly with the earth by using recycled paper. Renee will also live more fairly with her neighbors by helping out around the neighborhood. She will share her commitments with her community by speaking with her neighbors. Jordan Wareham, Hollidaysburg, PA Jordan will not be taking so much for granted and not wasting so much. She will live more fairly with her neighbors by showing them ways to be more responsible with the earth. Jordan will also be sharing with others when she sees them doing wrong things to the earth. Hannah Clemenson, Johnstown, PA Hannah will live more responsibly with the earth by driving less. She will live more fairly with her neighbors by being nicer to them. Hannah will also share her commitments with her community by telling people about the bracelet. Rebecca Creath, Ft. Wayne, IN For earth's sake, Rebecca will be taking care of the recyclables at her work that were being thrown away. She also commits to not support Walmart as she seeks fairness to her global neighbors. Rebecca will continue to fulfill her commitments and dialogue with anyone who expresses interest in her actions. Philip Flickinger, Lakeville, IN Philip will live more responsibly with the earth by realizing the choices he makes affects others in far away places. He will also be asking and helping his neighbors when they don't expect it. Philip will share his commitments with his community by spreading the word of the cause. Rebecca Replogle, North Liberty, IN Rebecca will not litter and consciously recycle. She will live more fairly with her neighbors by looking out for them and going out of her way to be kind to them. Rebecca will also share her commitments with her community by spreading the cause. Elizabeth Willis, Tryon, NC Elizabeth will live more responsibly with the earth by recycling more and treating the nature around her with respect by not littering and telling people not to either. She is treating everyone with respect and compassion by helping other people when they are in need. Elizabeth will share her commitments with her community by letting her friends and family know. Keelia McCormack, Tryon, NC Keelia will be reducing, reusing, and recycling. She will also be helping her neighbors with their household needs. Keelia will share her commitments with her community by telling people about it. Alexandra Beard, Lake Ariel, PA Alexandra will live more responsibly with the earth by recycling plastics, newspapers and glass. She ill be giving less criticism to her neighbors when the whole story is not known. Alexandra will also share her commitments with her community by attending community programs that benefit our environment. Luke Sprunger, Fort Wayne, IN Luke will not be driving his car as much. He will live more fairly with his neighbors by being more kind, respectful, and open. He also will tell his community of his commitments. Heidi Sowers, Knoxville, MD Heidi plans to educate herself on ways to better conserve and restore God's earth. She will also continue to conserve materials in her own personal life and habits. To do her part to live justly in the world, she will, above all, treat everyone as an equal. She will lend a helping hand where Cassidy McFadden, Elgin, IL To tread on the earth more lightly, Cassidy David and Nan Erbaugh, West Alexandria, OH In order to live more sustainably with God's earth, David and Nan will drive a hybrid car; bicycle to work as much as possible; use a non-motorized reel mower; create a yard full of native plants to attract wildlife; reduce overall consumption of water, electric, gas, and carbon dioxide; grow vegetables and herbs; recycle everything possible; and shop at second-hand stores. They will be conscious of their global neighbors by buying organic and fair trade food and clothing whenever possible; buying "green" products; belonging to a food co-op; eating foods in season and not buying fresh foods out of season; buying food grown locally as much as possible; and visiting and getting to know sisters and brothers in developing countries. To share these commitments with their community, Nan and David will take real dishes to potlucks and picnics and offer to wash others' dishes as well; maintain a can crusher at the workplace; encourage their church to be more energy Kristen Hoffman, Hillsboro, KS Kristen will work toward sustainable living by recycling and using resources to the best of her abilities. Being patient, trying to listen, and treating other people the way she would like to be treated is how she will go about living fairly with her neighbors. She will speak with her friends and family about how they can take care of the Earth (not littering, reducing pollution, recycling, etc.) and she will tell them about Join the Band. Martha J. Shaak, Myerstown, PA Martha will work toward living sustainably with God's earth by keeping current with legislative efforts to air and water quality, by acting as an advocate for stewardship of the earth initiatives, by limiting her personal use of petroleum products and water, by advocating for the preservation of wilderness areas, by being a strict adherent to recycling opportunities, by the selective purchasing of unbleached paper products that are produced from recycled materials and by making dietary choices that include more vegetable rather than animal proteins. She will seek to live fairly with her global neighbors by attempting to always contextualize her life in a global perspective, opposing a lifestyle of consumerism, purchasing equal exchange products whenever available, acknowledging the tithe as the beginning of her sharing resources with the rest of the humanity with a challenge to increase that by 1% per year. Martha will share her concerns and commitments with her community by resourcing and launching a stewardship education program and promoting the "Joining the Band" agenda within her own church and by continuing to teach the techniques of no trace, low impact camping to those she guides on canoe trips and to further engender an appreciation for the precious resource of wilderness within all persons she interacts with. Mike Waters, Fort Wayne, IN Mike will buy organically produced and fairly traded groceries as much as is possible when he starts his seminary education. To live in such a way as to honor his global and local neighbors, he commits to volunteering at least one hour of each week no matter where he is. Mike will dialogue with fellow students at seminary about the need to live our lives transformed. Ashley R Appleman, Woodbury, PA In order to live more sustainably, Ashley will recycle and reuse, avoid unnecessary consumption, and respect the land and environment. She will support local business and community members, work to serve others, and share her knowledge and experiences regarding sustainability and the importance of community. To share her concerns with her community, she will lead workshops and meetings with her church and work; provide resources to the residents of her hall such as recycling bins, factsheets, and contacts; and will live her life practicing these commitments, explaining their meaning and origin. Jonathan Storm Reasner, Chambersburg, PA Storm will bike as much as possible, and will also recycle and reuse bottles, cans, and paper. He will be aware of his global neighbors by donating food and money to those in other countries who are starving. His concerns about these issues will be shared with others at his school when he puts a message into his geography news video. Nita Gibbons, Chambersburg, PA Nita will care for creation by working to preserve wildlife and also by recycling. In regards to her friends and neighbors, Nita will educate them about recycling. Lacey Stauffer, Chambersburg, PA Lacey will show her concern for the earth by recycling, not wasting so much water, and not buying so much. As part of a global community, Lacey will not buy bottled water, will search for fairly-made products, and will consider becoming a missionary to help others around the world. To educate her friends and family, she will speak with them, encourage them to stop buying unfair products, and will possibly start a fundraiser for people in third world countries. Emily Altland, Dillsburg, PA Emily will care for the earth by recycling objects. She will share her concerns and commitments with her community by doing skits and spreading the word of God. Angela Smith, Baltimore, MD Angela plans to walk, ride a bike, or use public transportation; plant an organic garden; make her own environmentally safe cleaning products; buy used goods more often; buy local and organic foods when possible; and go to the library instead of buying new books. In order to live fairly with her world neighbors, she will buy locally produced foods from small farms; shop at small, independently-owned stores instead of large chains; and educate herself about where and how products are made. When an educational opportunity arises in her community, at work, or with friends, she will take the time to talk with people about how our actions influence everything and everyone else, and she will do this in a non-self-righteous manner. Morgan Knepp, Everett, PA In an effort to live more sustainably, Morgan will use less paper, and recycle what she does use. She will help her neighbors with projects they do, and she will share her concern for the global community by talking with her local community members. Bradley Knepp, Everett, PA Bradley will plant trees to show his respect for God's earth. To do his part as a member of our global community, he will share with others. He will talk to members of his community about his global concerns. Bonnie M. Rhoads, Palmyra, PA Bonnie knows that consumption of resources is not a "right," but a privilege to be tempered by an awareness of international dynamics. As part of a global community, she will partake of only her just portion and will share any excess she might acquire. In order to share her concerns and commitments with family and friends, she will act morally, speak out, and consume justly and moderately. Hattie J. Marshall, Everett, PA Hattie will work outside in her yard in order to live in harmony with the earth. She will also help her neighbor with his yardwork. Molly Dean, Pasadena, MD To act on her concerns for the environment, Molly will recycle soda cans, newspapers, and plastic. She will be friendly and show respect to her neighbors. Molly will share her feelings and be honest with others in her community. Angalena Hutchins, Pasadena, MD Angalena will work for God's earth by helping keep it clean, giving to other areas that need more, and giving to nature (watering plants, putting out food). She will respect her neighbors and their land. To share her concerns with her community, Angalena will be honest and will help others who need her. Fiona Grugan, Alexandria, PA Fiona will work for sustainable living by conserving water and food, and using non-powered transportation whenever possible. To live fairly with her global neighbors, she will try to think about who or what she affecting before she does or buys something. She will raise awareness about world issues among her local community, whenever relevant. John Glick, Huntingdon, PA John will recycle to demonstrate his commitment to the environment. He will help neighbors in need, and will share with his community by talking about his experiences. David Manthos, Claysburg, PA David will live sustainably by driving less, using less stuff he doesn't need, and not throwing good stuff away. To live fairly with others in the world, he will be kind even to people he doesn't like, and will forgive others. He will volunteer more and help people who can't help themselves. Jessica Rush, Everett, PA To act on her concerns for God's earth, Jessica will take only what she needs and try to conserve the extra things she receives. She will treat her neighbors as she would want to be treated, and will try to give fairly. Jessica will share what she has learned with her youth group and friends because she believes that together they can make a difference. Carol Novak, Amboy, IL Carol will live more sustainably with the earth by recycling more, conserving water and electricity, not littering, and walking or biking whenever possible. She will seek fairness for her neighbors by being more tolerant, learning about and trying to better understand other religions, continuing to support Heifer International. She impact her commmunity by speaking out, modeling good behavior and witnessing to others. Rebecca Gant, Franklin Grove, IL Rebecca will live more sustainably with God's earth by recycling conscientiously and cutting back on any polluting activities. She will help her neighbors in the world live better and more dignified lives. And she will spread the word about how things are now and what we should be doing differently. Debra Illes, Lyndhurst, OH Debbie will think about her actions in terms of the big picture; she will make choices based on creation care, not convenience; she will be a good steward of that with which God has entrusted her. In relation to her global neigbbors, she will work to understand their challenges and needs; learning about and responding to their needs; making informed choices that have a positive impact. In her community, she will share her faith and knowledge, modeling sustainable choices in her day-to-day life--and continue her work with New Community Project. Barb Holtz, South Euclid, OH Barb will strive to not be too lazy to do what is best for creation every minute of every day; specifically, she will bike and walk more, and use the car less. With her neighbors, she will work to curb her judgemental attitude toward "wealthy, white suburbia", since this kind of prejudice will not further the message or honor God. She will living by example, since our strongest voice is not also audible, but visible. John and Anne Ott, Churubusco, IN The Ott's have replaced over 20 regular lightbulbs with compact florescent bulbs, have purchased an energy efficient refrigerator, and are looking into more energy-efficient heat. A way they will live more fairly with their global neighbors is by making a monthly financial commitment to support NCP in its work. Their witness in their community includes establishing recycling in John's office, sharing about NCP and Heifer Project with family and friends, and setting an example for their children and encouraging their participation in these concerns. Carolyn Farmer, Polo, IL Carolyn will work for greater care of the creation by planning her daily routine more efficiently. She will show care for her neighbors in the world by giving consideration to the products she purchases, and will make her own community aware of the things she is learning from NCP about caring for the earth. Jordan Blevins, Washington, DC Jordan will exercise earth care by walking or taking public transit whenever possible, and by recycling and using recyled goods. He will live more fairly with his global neighbors by buying Fair Trade products and by educating othere about the needs of the world. He will be an advocate and a resource person in his community, preaching and teaching on issues of peace and social justice. Sam Ott, Churubusco, IN Sam will be a good steward by picking up aluminum cans, then donating the proceeds to the work of the New Community Project to assist our global neighbors. In his community, he will set up a recycling program at his dad's office, along with making available information about NCP's efforts to encourage sustainable living. Roberta Owens, Phoenix, AZ will try to plant trees wherever and whenever possible. It is important to her to share with her neighbors what she has learned and encourage them to spread the knowledge about living sustainably with God's earth. She will also try to encourage them not to be so indulgent and she lead by example. Tony Chandler Lopez, AZ Tony will do all he can to clean up the trash in his neighborhood and recycle. He will do all he can to spread the word and get more youths involved with his concern. Sheila Chandler Lopez, AZ will try not to be wasteful and she will shop responsibly. Sheila will share with her church regarding the environment and community-friendly projects such as 10,000 Villages, Fair Trade coffee, etc. Beth Merrill, Lakewood, CO Beth is continuing to be a vegetarian and is aware of all the products she uses. She is trying to live sustainably by reducing her water waste and recycling. She tries to use what she needs and not what she wants and supports businesses that treat their workers fairly. She wants to be a voice in her community for recycling and reusing. Beth wants to be a leader by wearing her wristband proudly. Heidi Gross, Aurora, IL. Heidi is learning about making good consumption decisions. She wants to have more knowledge on the products that she uses by looking for union-made, organic and local products. She will think globally and be aware of the struggles of people around the world. She will converse with friends and students about the importance of their commitment to live sustainably with God's earth. Andrew Dusendang, Rockford, MI. Andrew will work directly with communities on specific causes such as digging wells for clean water. He will inform his church on the importance of fair trade coffee and start buying such products. Andrew will start programs in his church and community that stress the importance of making use of reusable products. Emily Miner, Rockford, MI. Emily, in hopes of living more sustainably, will walk whenever possible instead of driving. She will use less paper and decrease the amount of garbage she produces by reusing plastics and composting. When she gets her own home, she will make it as energy efficient as possible by adding solar panels and insulation. Emily wants to use her time more productively to help others and supporting organizations that support fair trade. By thinking critically and questioning activities that she finds harmful or wasteful, Emily wishes to lead by setting an example for others. Colleen Hamilton, Rockford, MI. Living near her work place is a way that Colleen reduces auto usage. Deciding between what she owns and what she needs is a way that she can live more sustainably. Colleen will buy Fair Trade items and in an effort to live fairly with her neighbors, she will listen to their concerns and try to support them as much as possible. She will also support the actions of Manchester College Students Against Sweatshops. Chris Eberly, Warrenton, VA. He will seek out and buy fair trade, organic products from sustainable sources and reduce his ecological footprint. By educating his church group and colleagues about justice and environmental sustainability, they too can support the earth by witnessing his manner of living. Shannon Zimmerman, Elizabethtown, PA In relation to earth care, Shannon will live more responsibly, practicing good stewardship of the earth, making thoughtful decisions about the environment, and remembering that one person can make a difference. With her neighbors, Shannon will do her part to maintain or improve the health of the planet, treating it as a trust that was given to her. In her community, she will lead by example, become more involved with environmental organizations, and encourage others to be good stewards of the earth. Meganmarie Pinkerton, N. Manchester, IN Meganmarie will work at caring for the earth by participating in the campus environmental club, decreasing her personal impact on the earth, and educating others about their impact. She will live more fairly toward her neighbors by reducing her destruction of the environment, creating a better place for the world's people. She will impact her community through the environmental club, helping others see their impacts and what they can do differently and better. Anna Simons, Granger, IN Regarding earth-keeping, Anna will consume as little as possible, working to strengthen that commitment as she continues on through her life. To live more fairly, she will buy products made by people who are paid a fair wage, and not contribute to injustice. She will set an example to her community by remaining true to her commitments. Jon Largent, Muncie, IN Jon will care for the earth by learning about and teaching Leave No Trace. To live more fairly toward others, he will work to get along with people and pass on his knowledge about Leave No Trace. Ryan Deeter, South Bend, IN In regard to the environment, Ryan will work to maintain its beauty and natural existence; with his neighbors he will practice giving and loving; in his community, he will seek to involve and inform others. Emily Hallgren, N. Manchester, IN Emily will safeguard mother Earth by using only a little and giving back, and by working for a sustainable environment. With her neighbors, she will respect all people, land and animals of the Earth, taking only what she needs and giving to others. In her community, she will speak out for the environment and for justice. Laura Lovelace, N. Manchester, IN Laura will practice earth-care by recycling and by spreading awareness to others. She will live fairly with her neighbors by only using what she needs, and seeking out Fair Trade products. In her community, she will talk and write about her commitments. Madalyn Metzger, Bristol, IN To better care for God's earth, Madalyn will conscientiously recycle as well as make informed consumer choices. She will seek to be a good global neighbor by purchasing Fair Trade products and advocating on behalf of those without a voice. In her community, she will share information about social, economic, and environmental justice issues. Mary Tritch, Middletown, PA Mary will tend the earth by growing vegetables instead of mowing grass; eating less red meat; walking more and driving less; using less paper; and giving away used clothes. With her neighbors, she will share food and rides; buy used clothing; and exchange ideas on how to save the environment. In her community, she will share her thoughts and concerns with others and attend church groups and town meetings to get the message out. Maxine Naragon, North Liberty, IN Maxine will practice earth care by raising and preserving vegetables, and by turning down the thermostat and wearing sweaters instead of using energy. With her neighbors, she will practice the Golden Rule (Matthew 7:12 ). To share her concerns, this 70 year-old will attend church when possible and give of her finances. Natasha Quinones, Harrisburg, PA Natasha will give help to others in need; she will work to get along with people she may not even know; and encourage others around her to do the same. Martha McCurdy, Decatur, GA Martha will care for the earth by recycling as much as possible, and by eating organically grown food. In her relations with other people, she will refrain from stereotyping, accepting differences rather than judging them. In her community, she will share her thoughts and concerns, talking with her friends about possible solutions. Katie Strahm Frantz, Topeka, KS Katie will work at earth care by continuing to recycle, walk rather than drive to shop, and hang out her clothes to dry. Reaching out to her neighbors, she'll offer rides to church or to the doctor, and share garden produce. In her community, she takes part in the local Center for Peace and Justice and CROP Walk. Rebekah Houff, Bethel, PA Becca will practice earth stewardship by recycling and encouraging others to do the same, being aware of her surroundings, and conserving energy-and generally not being wasteful. For her neighbors, she'll purchase Fair Trade products and support organization working for economic justice, while also educating herself about the situation of her global neighbors. In her community, she'll be an example and share her opinions and choices, and will educate others about peace and justice issues. Fran Gresson, Harrisburg, PA Fran will respect the earth by recycling, composting and living as organically as possible. To reach out to her neighbors, she'll contribute to organizations like the New Community Project and other worthy causes. She'd also like to spend time abroad working with these groups. In her own circle, she'll be an example, speaking up about her commitments and sharing information with others. Kristen Hoffman, Hillsboro , KS Kristen will take care of the earth by recycling and using resources to the best of her abilities. She will treat others as she would like to be treated and share with them about how they too can help take care of the earth. Ellen Wile, Hurlock , MD Ellen is committed to conserving water and becoming an educated and responsible consumer. She supports organizations that provide aid to her neighbors in this world and will share the word about her commitments and her decision to Join the Band at work and church. Jamie Frye, McPherson , KS Jamie has decided to walk to school every day, buying more domestically produced goods, and making sure that recycling is taken more seriously at school. Erin Flory, Tucson, AZ Erin will work at care for the earth by biking to work and church and by buying organic and earth-friendly food and other items. She'll seek to live fairly with her neighbors by continuing to live simply and consciously and by being actively involved in peace and justice work locally and more broadly. In relation to her community, she'll continue to vocalize her values, beliefs and passions, and she'll live her life as consistently and faithfully as possible. Brenda Greenhoe, Grand Marsais, MI She will care for the earth by reducing the use of consumables: especially fossil fuels (plans to walk or bike on trips of less than five miles and share rides on longer trips); turning the thermostat to 60 degrees in the winter; using natural light during the days; making the most of daylight hours; and reusing and recycling. In relation to others, she will work through conflicts peacefully, striving to create win/win situations for all parties involved. She will engage her community by living by example and by sharing information through her church bulletin and verbally with friends. Kay Shafer, Dallastown, PA Kay will conserve where she can, and especially work to limit car use in her effort to live more sustainably. In relation to her neighbors, she will consider how fortunate she is, and share her "stuff" with those less fortunate. She will endeavor to educate others on current imposing issues and encourage conservation and recycling. John-Michael Kylen, Topeka, KS John-Michael will recycle more and be sure to pick up trash and recyclables in the neighborhood, and be sure he tells his family about these things. Nick Bush, Topeka, KS Nick will help his family recycle more, and encourage them to do so when they don't. He'll also make sure people know what happens when we recycle-and when we don't. Jasmine Puderbaugh, Topeka, KS Jasmine will care for the earth by: continuing to conserve water, buying fewer individually-wrapped items, and buying more things in reusable containers. She'll reach out to others by researching groups that aid farmers by giving them a fair price for their products and purchasing from these groups. She'll advocate by telling others what she is doing and by encouraging them to do similar things (for instance, recycling, composting, conserving energy and water). Hadasseh Puderbaugh, Topeka, KS She'll work on caring for the earth by recycling soup and soda cans and paper, and collecting trash. Looking out for her neighbors, she'll check on where things she buys are made, making sure they're not made in sweatshops before she buys them. To spread the word, she'll give her family Fair Trade and recycled products for gifts. Debbie Keeshan, Topeka, KS Debbie is committed to driving less, continuing to reuse and recycle, educating herself re pollution, energy sources, and regulations on land use, and contacting people who can make a difference to make her opinions known. In relation to her neighbors, she'll seek out and purchase Fair Trade items, purchase recycled paper and locally-grown food whenever possible. She'll engage her community by encouraging less paper plate and cup use at her church, and will challenge her co-workers to recycle paper and cans by setting up a recycling program. Soo Yao Zhong, Singapore He will live responsibly with the earth by recycling as many materials as possible, using public transit or biking or walking instead of private vehicles, reducing water and electricity use, reusing pre-loved goods instead of buying newly manufacturing, using eco-friendly materials and processes whenever possible. Soo will seek to live fairly with his neighbors by living a life of compassion, seeking to help, support and comfort the sick (not just financially, but through actual commitment), and bringing the message of peace to people of all races, religions, nationalities, and creeds. In addition, he will impact his community by actively promoting eco-friendly living and by protesting environmentally harmful actions in nonviolent ways. Barbara Busse, Phoenix, Az. To live more sustainably, she will try to drive only five days per week, organize trips and appointments, and carpool when possible; forego showering on days she stays at home; limit meals with meat to seven per week; purchase organic food 90% of the time; run washer/dryer/dishwasher one time per week. To live more fairly with her neighbors, she will contribute to environmental, religious, social justice, and quality of life organizations in the US and other parts of the world (i.e. India, where she was a Peace Corps volunteer). Barbara will share her concerns by actively participating in care for creation efforts, and contacting elected officials to urge their attention to these issues. Lisa Kemes, Shiremanstown, Pa. In caring for the earth, she will not use fertilizer on her lawn; recycle everything she can--including sending her clothes to Goodwill and recycling paper at work; save energy by only using cold water for washing clothes; never again go to McDonald's. In living more fairly with her neighbors, Lisa will contribute to charities that support her beliefs; will not purchase products known to be made by low-wage workers; seek better pay for workers. She will engage her community by talking about these things with friends and by bringing speakers to her church to address these concerns--and by wearing her wristband! Nancy O'Baugh, Bridgewater, Va. Environmentally, Nancy will continue to use eco-friendly cleaning and laundry products; increase her use of the clothesline and drying racks; adjust her thermostat and her clothing to save heating energy; walk more and drive less. In relation to her neighbors, she will continue supporting Fair Trade organizations; share the joy of living with less; carefully consider whether purchases are wants or needs. In her community, she will continue to meet monthly with others of like mind--and will be a living example! Kim Witkovsky, Huntingdon, Pa. Recycling, walking instead of driving, conserving water and energy, and honoring and respecting creation head Kim's care-for-the-earth list. With her neighbors, she will support a child in a poorer country; volunteer with Habitat; contribute to the local food bank; participate in relief efforts to meet children's needs; be an advocate for those who are oppressed or persecuted; respect others' lifestyle and opinions. She will engage her church community with these concerns through Minute for Mission, being involved in projects locally and internationally, and integrating into Sunday School curriculum support for outreach ministries. Mark Craddock, Winston-Salem, Nc. Mark will care for the earth by being a vegetarian, recycling, supporting local farmers and buying organically-grown food. With his neighbors, he will seek opportunities to buy Fair Trade products; avoid items made in Sweat Shops; seek peace and well-being for all humans; and try to live the Beatitudes. In his community, he will try to stay educated and educate others; help with boycotts and protests where appropriate; and stand steadfast for what is right and just. Marisa Visel, Gainesville, Fl. Marisa uses only canvas shopping bags; prints on scrap and one-side-clean paper; and buys locally-grown organic produce. To live more fairly with her neighbors, she will reduce, reuse, recycle; purchase only what she needs, not what she wants; and will consider the consequences of her lifestyle on the earth and its people. At work, she plans to begin collecting recyclable materials and circulating email alerts to encourage others to get involved with critical issues such as the Arctic and fuel efficiency standards. Mike and Dorothy Wolf, Alto, MI They plan to purchase more organic food and locally grown food (directly from the farmer, when possible), use native plants in their yard, continue to read and educate themselves. In relation to their neighbors, they will support indigenous communities in Brazilian Amazon through prayer and purchasing handicrafts, ride bikes to work and church when possible, continue with their commitment to eat less meat. In their community, they will share NCP's Earth in Earnest with their congregation and offer slide shows on the Arctic and the Amazon. Jon Zunkel, Huntingdon, Pa. Rachael Fye, Pennsylvania Furnace, Pa. David Radcliff, Elgin, IL Working to totally replace the car with the bicycle for trips under 10 miles, giving up beef and moving toward less meat in his diet altogether, using as little energy as possible for heating, lighting, and other household operations; listening to his neighbors in the world and working toward seeing their situation and needs as his own, challenging the economic and social structures that keep people from the life God wishes for them; while being respectful of others' views, sharing his concerns for a better world whenever possible, writing a play on the life of St. Francis--the patron saint of compassion and creation.
