Solidarity Worker: Sudan Teacher: Blessed Bakhita School (Narus, Sudan) Blessed Bakhita School for Girls in southern Sudan is home to over 700 pupils who have come there from many areas of southern Sudan. The school, which offers both primary and secondary education, was begun in the early 1990's as a way of offering education to young women in this war-torn country.
Teacher: Preschool (Maridi) The community of Maridi is in need of a educational and childcare program for 1-5 year olds to provide much-needed learning opportunities for local children. In addition, the school will free mothers to carry on with daily chores and attend training workshops without needing to care for their children. No teaching experience required; however, a love of children and an ability to be creative in developing a program with local resources are essential! Immediate supervision by New Sudan Council of Churches staff. Housing provided; modest expenses for food, transportation to and from site, health insurance, and other needs must be provided by the volunteer/NCP. No foreign language skills required. Assistant: director of youth/women's program Be a part of a vital ministry of the New Sudan Council of Churches by serving as assistant to Florence Bayoa of the youth/women's desk. Assist in coordination of training events, communication tasks, and overall program implementation. Position based at Maridi, some travel inside Sudan possible. Housing provided; modest expenses for food, transportation to and from site, health insurance, and other needs must be provided by the volunteer/NCP. No foreign language skills required, although willingness to learn local languages a plus. Contact David Radcliff for more information at dradcliff@newcommunityproject.org |
