Our new Write for Life campaign focuses on the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge -- a slender piece of land in the far north that is the birthing ground for the 150,000 strong Porcupine Caribou Herd every summer. Our government wants to drill for oil there, even though it would provide only 1.5 percent of the oil we use. And the native people who depend on the caribou are frightened that this will end their way of life. We have cool little postcards for you to write your Congressperson, a color poster and background materials. Great for your church, school or youth group! Do the If a Tree Falls... project. The world's forests are being cut down at the rate of an acre a second. This is the main reason species are going extinct at the rate of 50-100 a day! The deforestation rate in the Central American nation of Guatemala is one of the worst in the world. That's why we're helping plant 25,000 trees in Guatemala every year—preventing erosion, providing habitat for critters, reducing flooding, recycling CO2, regulating the climate, providing firewood.
